Does Nutrition Really Matter?
Nutrition and supplements are big topics today. Everyone is talking about it. Protein is the new “go to” and we’re supposed to get some every couple of hours! That seems like a lot of pressure. Is it true? Does what we eat REALLY make that much difference? How about in pregnancy? Can vegans get enough complete protein for a growing baby? Are protein powders sufficient?
These are great questions and I won’t go into tremendous detail here. The short answer is - YES! Our bodies cannot function at their best without the needed fuels. We need protein, carbs and fats. We need vitamins and minerals - and hydration with electrolytes. The less processed our food, the more nutrient dense it will be.
It is less expensive to eat real food. Shop the perimeter of the grocery store and avoid the middle aisles. Cook at home, meal prep and always have nutritious snacks with you. Going out to eat is fun - but if the budget demands - cut down on it so that you can buy better food for home.
